Federation

Federations (clan)
A Federation is a group of empires (limited to 20) joining together in a pact. A Federation is similar to a guild, cult, clan, society or gang. Federation members generally help each other out and make the game more fun. Every federation depends heavily on their leader on the direction and goals of the federation.

Navigation! To access federation details, go to Command Menu : Manage Empire > Diplomacy > Federation (Clan).

Before you join a Federation:-

Why should I join a Federation?
  • Defense
Joining a good and powerful Federation automatically makes your empire stronger. This is because your Federation members can provide you with reinforcements when your empire is attacked at any of your systems. Members can also inform you if there are any urgent events such as a galaxy crisis or if someone attacked you.
  • Sharing of Information
When you are in a Federation you can actually track who is attacking who and so on. This can prove to be an important issue, as you can not only keep an eye out for your fellow members, but you can monitor any hostile events.
  • More Fun
You can join a group of friends or make new friends.
  • Team Work
Once you join a Federation it is much easier to work together as a team. For example, you can work together to bring down a single enemy, help each other defend against attacks and provide each other with suggestions on improving the empire.

Joining the right Federation
  • The Leader's Ability
A federation depends heavily on their leader. If the leader is quite inactive (that means he/she doesn't do much for the federation) then the federation's influence is quite limited.
  • Federation Members
You may wish to join a federation which contains members with more or less the same power rating or ranking as you. Although it may be good to join a federation where most members are in the top 10 rank (assuming you are ranked quite low, at around 1,000). It all depends on the federation's leader to approve your application, or not.
  • State of the Federation
It may not be wise able to join a federation that has many enemies or is in the middle of conflict. Check out and ask around prior to joining a federation.

After you start a Federation:-
Background
After you start a federation you must set the goals, rules and tasks for your federation as shown in the following example.

Announcements
Post any urgent announcements here. Example:
2005-08-17 : New member = PoohBear
2005-08-13 : Peace with Disneyland
2005-08-01 : Declared war with Disneyland

Goal
Set a current goal of your federation. Example:
- have x amount of planets
- have x Pr of
- have x members

Rules
Set rules for your federation. Example:
- do only maximum of 2x attack to others
- always attack those in federation war first
- everyone must build a minimum of x Pr ships in the outpost
- if anyone attacks any of our members 5x in a row, it is considered an act of war

Task
Organize tasks for members. Example:
Stephen - Leader, update federation page
PoohBear - coordinate attacks
PinkBall - update federation website

Public Message
You can post your rules and other messages to other players in this area. This information will be accessible to every other player in the game, therefore be careful of what you post in this area. Keep in mind that space is limited, therefore try to summarize as much as possible.

Private Notice
This is a notice board for your players. You can post the Goals, rules, tasks and other matters you can think of in this area. This is the first page that all your federation members will see whenever they enter the game. Keep in mind that space is limited, therefore try to summarize as much as possible.

NAT & Ally
Enter a federation's name you wish to set as NAT or Ally. Once you set this up, whenever any members of your federation tries to attack someone in the federation in this list they will get a prompt. This is to avoid unnecessary confrontation. The federation(s) you set in this list will also appear in your federation's page

War
Enter a federation's name you wish to set as At War. Once you set this up, whenever any members of your federation tries to attack someone in the federation in this list, a warning will appear informing them that your federation is currently at war with this federation. You are also able to list all empires in all federations that you are currently at war with in the `Rank near me` page under Military > Rank. This will make it easier for you to attack empires that you are at war with.

Website
You can set up your very own federation website. This is optional though, however it does add to the `cool` factor if you have a nice and cool looking federation website. Always remember to check your HTML code if you wish to post HTML codes in your federation website.

Recruiting Members

How to recruit
One can scan or browse the site for potential recruits and then proceed to send that empire a private message asking him or her to join your federation. Posting messages in the forums is also allowed, but be very careful about flooding the channel.

High ranking or powerful members
The more powerful an empire, the more he/she can contribute to the federation? Wrong. A powerful empire doesn't mean that member will be active, or obey the rules of the federation (set by the leader). Recruiting a powerful empire can be useless because reinforcement provided might be too high in PR to be used by other empires or the reinforcement provided by your other fed members are not effective enough for the powerful empire. That is why it's always best to have federation members around the same PR.

Members you want
The best members you can find are those who obey the rules set by the leader and are willing to work together as a team.

Spies and Double Agents

Universal Wars
During a war with other empires / federations, be very careful about recruiting new members because they may be spies. Spies listen to your strategy and plans. This can prove to be very valuable information during war.

How can you send your own spies?
One can easily send a spy to another federation to get intelligence. This spy can then report back to the leader or other members of the federation to share the newly found information.

How to be a good leader?

Be online at least once a day
As a leader, you've got to cater to all your members' needs and provide them with guidance, because you're the only person who can edit the Federation Details page which is accessible by all members.
There might be new applicants to your federation which needs attention.

Set rules for members
As a leader, you've got to have rules to govern your members. Rules are needed to keep them together and supportive of each other. Since the main purpose of federations in Unification Wars currently is for members to support each other with reinforcements. We suggest that all federation leaders ensure that all members have sufficient amount of ships in their outpost.

Take action against rule offenders
There will always be players who are not playing by the rules. As leader of your federation, you will have to take action against them before it's too late. There will be players who act like parasites in the game. They will stay in your federation getting reinforcements from other members in your federation. However, they do not provide sufficient or equal amount of reinforcements for other players.

Keep members growing together
All your federation members should be around the same PR to ensure sufficient support is given to each other. If an empire becomes too strong, the empire will not get sufficient amounts of reinforcements. If an empire is too weak, it will not get reinforcements at all because of the 0.5x PR restriction for reinforcements.
